If we don’t get to go to the fair, we will bring it. One curd at a time…
Deep Fried Cheese Curds
Ingredients
- 1 lb Fresh Cheese Curds
- 3/4 cups buttermilk (or milk + juice of 1/2 lemon)
- 3/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
- Oil for frying (I use canola or peanut)
- 1 lb Fresh Cheese Curds
Method
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or dutch oven on the stove with about 1 1/2 inches of oil to 375 degrees.
- In a small bowl mix milk + lemon juice if using and set aside for 5 minutes.
- In a medium size bowl mix buttermilk, flour, baking soda, egg and salt together.
- Add cheese curds and toss until fully coated. Batter will be wet, if you want a thicker batter add 1/4-1/2 cup more flour and mix.
- Very carefully add single curds into hot oil and cook until just golden or about 3-4 minutes.
- Drain on a paper towel.
Enjoy immediately!
Optional Sauce: 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon ketchup, juice from 1/4 lime or 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
