A Recipe for You. From Me. Take-Out. Delivery is an Option. Curbside is Popular. Regardless, it is Expensive. We are together. We are family.
Hi! Welcome to Sunday. Lazy dazy Sunday. A chill in the air, no where to be, not allowed to be anywhere. Perfect. Ok, well I have to work at Noon today, but that goes without saying. For a lot of you Sunday’s are for catching up, homework, cleaning house, filling up the gas tank, yard work, making or having a family meal together.
Since we are not allowed to dine out for our own safety and the safety of others why not learn to make some of your favorite take-out meals? Yuh, it’s possible. Juicy Lucy, pizza, pad Thai, Chinese pork buns, egg rolls, chicken tikka masala! Yum!
Some require ingredients that you may not have and I urge you to please not go out during this time of being home bound to get them. This time is meant to hinder the spread of the virus as much as possible and running to the grocery store to buy 1 dozen eggs or a bottle of hoisin sauce or 1 single roma tomato (yes, people are still doing this) is simply irresponsible and quite frankly dangerous for some, including myself and my family and the families of all of those on the front lines without the option to be at home, safely.
I know we may be feeling cooped up, antsy or even a bit anxious because we are unable to head to the gym or walk around the mall or go to dinner and a movie. Yes, I completely get it, for the most part we are social beings and need that exposure to the outside world, but now is a time to find something else. Reading, indoor yoga via YouTube. Heck! Bring back family game night with popcorn and milkshakes! Prune the hedges, paint your nails, dye your hair, organize your laptop photos, scrapbook, sew, mow the lawn, wash your car in the driveway. There are plenty of things to do.
I want all of us to be responsible adults and only go out when absolutely necessary. Believe me when I say that I want things to be different. I want to teach hands-on cooking classes and joke around with the guests, I want to be at events selling my spices, I want to see the regular customers and hang out with the families that make an event out of coming to Trader Joe’s. Of course I do! However, at this time, the places to remain open are not meant to be social gathering places. Not right now. Soon enough we will get back to normalcy, but right now we are all just trying to hold it all together as best we can by doing the right thing for our health and safety and the health and safety of others. Hang in there. Reach out to friends and family via video chat or a phone call. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Be responsible. Be safe. Be healthy. Be alive!
For those of you who tuned into my first Facebook live event yesterday featuring a golden, moist, fluffy skillet cornbread…Thank you from the bottom of my heart for watching and participating. I am trying out new things form the comfort of my own home, while at the same time being social in a different way! It was absolutely what I needed and I hope that you enjoyed it. Tune in next week. I will go live again.
