Simplest of Simple Syrups

Add to coffee, iced tea, lemonade, cocktails or even cake!

Ingredients

8 oz water

1 cup sugar

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 8 ounces water, 1 cup sugar and if using, flavoring see below and bring to a boil.
  2. Simmer over moderate heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves, about 3 minutes.
  3. Let cool, then strain the syrup into a bottle or tightly covered glass jar and refrigerate for up to 1 month.

*Flavoring optional:  vanilla bean, citrus zest, extracts such as root beer, anise or orange, floral notes such as lavender, rose or chamomile, etc.
